The first time we heard of Crown Point was shortly after the pandemic shutdown. They began following our restaurant on Instagram, and liking many of our posts. With nothing else to do due to Covid, I began reading up on them and their wines. I loved how hands-on the winemaker was, and how closely he worked with his grounds crew.
Fast forward to March of 2022, and we were invited to a Crown Point luncheon at Abe & Louie's. We couldn't wait to give these wines a try, and to meet Simon in person. Well, his wines were just as delicious as we hoped, and Simon was a gracious and captivating host. We decided then and there that we needed to schedule a wine dinner with him.
That day finally came on April 19, 2023. Simon flew out from California to join us, and we had an absolutely lovely time with him. He spoke with guests about Santa Barbara, and the Happy Canyon AVA, and how he cultivated his fine wines. We created a menu that was both bold and robust enough to pair with each of his wines, while not overshadowing them. Our hope is that we created a few new Crown Point fans. We'd love to see more of Simon's wines in the area.
